Practitioners also believe that chiropractic is capable of reducing pressure exerted on sensitive neurological tissues. Doing this consequently improves the health of the individual in question. These methods can be used to treat various medical conditions, including neck pain, repetitive strains, headaches, arthritic pain, car accident injuries, sports injuries, and lower back pains among many others. Even though chiropractors tend to focus more on neuromusculoskeletal disorders, they can treat conditions related to the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.

The work of chiropractors also involves working alongside and with other practitioners of medicine like opticians, pediatricians, gynecologists, opticians, and dentists. Majority of cases often involve chiropractors having localized referral networks to ease the referral of patients requiring advanced treatment.

A patient usually needs to be examined before treatment is begun in order to establish the cause of the problem. The examination is usually not different from the one carried out by other medical practitioners. There are three parts in an examination that is case history, physical examination and consultation. There are cases where an x-ray and laboratory analysis have to be carried out.

A chiropractor usually sets a meeting with the patient during initial consultation. During this session, a patient is expected to give a summary of the symptoms they have been experiencing. The summary should include how long and frequent the symptoms have occurred. The symptoms should be well described since they may come as different forms of pain.

Pain can be described in several different ways, including burning, sharp, throbbing, seasonal, and cutting among others. Also, the areas where the pain is being felt must be described. In some cases, engaging in certain activities or postures usually make the pain better or worse. One is required to explain such activities.
