What You Need To Know About Houston Rhinoplasty

By Debra Bennett

There are various people who might not be happy with size or shape of their noses. The nose is a critical organ when it comes to balancing the facial structure. It is for that reason that many people look to go for surgery in order to find a harmonious alignment of different features. For residents of Houston rhinoplasty procedure is one that is complex and which patients need to be conversant with.

Whereas the technique is complicated, there are some limitations as regards how much alteration can be made. The outcomes will depend on the size of the nose, the age of the patient and the condition of the skin. There needs to be very clear communication between the surgeon and the patient regarding what expectations you have. That is important because the surgery can never solve emotional and social problems.

There are a number of reasons why people consider the procedure. One of the main reasons patients consider the surgery is for cosmetic purposes. People may want to change the tip of the nose because it is too wide, lacking in definition or round. You can also go for the procedure for medical reasons. That is in case there is injury to the nose, in which case the nose might be bent forward or broken. People with breathing problems will also benefit from the treatment.

The procedure can be done by making incisions in the nostrils. That is the case with closed rhinoplasty. The other option is open rhinoplasty in which a small incision will be made on the nose before the nose gets elevated. The procedure that is used will depend on nose area which is supposed to be treated. The surgery can be covered by the NHS, which is only the case when it is done as reconstructive surgery to improve breathing in a patient.

The operation takes approximately 2 hours, which depends on the specific technique used. After the treatment, the patient is expected to spend a night or two in hospital. You should also stay away from work for two weeks before resuming lighter duties. Exercising should be restricted to only non-strenuous activities.

The majority of closed nose surgeries will take 2 weeks to heal. There might not be scarring but should there be a broken nose which results from surgery, you will experience noticeable bruising. The bruises are around the eyes and last for around 10 days. There are effects of the surgery such as memory lapse, impaired judgment and slow reaction. After the procedure, you need to get someone to stay with you for some days.

When it comes to outcomes, even the slightest change in structure to the nose structure will make a major difference on the appearance of the nose. In certain cases however, that slight change might not be adequate and the surgeon might advise that you go for a second surgery. That is so that you get the desired changes.

Just like is the case with other forms of surgery, there are possible risks. These include bleeding, adverse reaction to amnesia and infections. There are also people who may experience permanent numbness around the nose and difficulty breathing.
