An Overview Of Concussion Recovery

By David Lee

Concussions happen all the time in sport or in accidents. Sometimes, this is very serious, and at other times, it lasts no time at all, with the person getting back on their feet again and continuing with what they were dong before. Concussion recovery may be quick, but one has to watch out for a relapse, because this can be dangerous.

There are people who don't rest or relax after an injury like this, and they will simply continue playing sport. They will suffer from symptoms which are basic symptoms of a concussion. Many people associate a concussion with a loss of consciousness. However, lots of people don't blank out at all. There are other symptoms which play a part in their lives.

They may go off the field for a few seconds until they are able to see properly. However, although they don't have any blurred vision, there are other things which they may be suffering from. They will not notice this at the time of play because they are focused on the game. However, after the game, these symptoms will take over.

They may not notice this and be thinking that it was due to the concussion. After all, they suffer from injuries all the time. Things like dizziness, depression and anxiety, loss of balance, fatigue and nausea may set in. The player doesn't have the time to look into these problems. They have to be back on the field. They are usually under pressure.

The recovery period will vary from one person to the next. Of course, it is the nature of the accident or injury which complicates this period. However, there are people who will develop which can last months. It is known as the post-concussion syndrome when it continues like this. There are many other symptoms, such as nausea or blurred vision as well as depression which are also common.

This is why it is important to know more about the symptoms. When you have been hit on the head, you need to follow this up with a doctor. Typically it can take just over a week to recover from this. If it take more than 10 days, you should see the doctor again and you will need to discuss your symptoms with him again.

One should be leading a lifestyle which is healthy. This should include nutrition that is healthy as well. One should stay away from alcohol and other unhealthy substances. Water should be the first choice because it is important to stay hydrated. Light exercise is recommended, but any neck exercises should be avoided at this time.

It is important to follow a healthy lifestyle, eating and drinking the right things. You need to be in a stress free environment which is tranquil and peaceful. Some people may remember the trauma of the accident and so it is essential that they are in an environment where they are not likely to be exposed to flashbacks which is going to cause them to be emotional. This is something to keep at the back of your mind.
