Here are tips to enable you prepare and get the most out of the recollections.

Choose the right recollection facility. Not all facilities will deliver to your expectations regardless of the promises made. You need a quiet place that allows you to recollect and reflect on the issues bothering you. Go out of town where people or noise will not distract you. A place where you will not be tempted to pay attention to your daily chores is recommended. It should give you enough time to stay alone and reflect.

The timing for your recollection must be right. There are moments in a year when you have a lot of responsibilities that can rarely be delegated. There are also instances when the mind and body and too tired to stay still. If you are needed for an AGM or your children have a school activity, you will never concentrate. Choose a time when the chances of distraction are minimal. It allows both the body and mind to settle down into recollection.

Have clearly defined intentions when going for the retreat. Lack of intentions means that you will be hoping that things go well. What will you be praying about? What areas in your life are problematic? It could be marital, social interactions, faith and such elements of life. These challenges will guide you on the materials to use, songs, and even spiritual leader to guide you.

Settle in the presence of God. It is possible to be out at a center yet your mind and body are miles away. Cause the mind to settle through tricks that you choose for yourself. It could be singing, quietness, staying still and such other methods. Delegate issues back at work or home to enable you avoid anxiety. Phones and other gadgets should be switched off to avoid distraction.

Find a way to connect with God. There are several ways to do so including meditating on relevant psalms, reading scriptures, prayer and reflections. Create a list of activities you will undertake. Plan worship sessions and have some time to listen to what God is saying. A spiritual director will also help you in the process. Be open and genuine in front of god. Any secrets will limit your ability to connect.

Plan your retreat to allow the mind to relax. It might be impossible for you to stay still and concentrate for an entire day. Other than force the body or mind to do the impossible, it is advisable that you break your sessions into a manageable schedule. Take a walk, cup of your favorite beverage, water or an activity that takes your mind off reflections.

Retreats should have a desired future in mind. Plan for that before you begin on reflections. This includes the habits you are willing to drop and new ones you intend to take up. Unless change occurs in your daily routine and life, it will be impossible to grow. Evaluate areas where you lost your path and how you should find it. Create checks and balances to keep you invigorated in faith.
