By Steven Howard

If you are plagued by the irritation caused by razor bumps and have been looking for effective ways to get rid of them, then you should know that you are not alone. Fortunately, there are several razor bumps solutions for treating or preventing such swellings that you can try. So, what causes this discomfort days after a clean shave? The swellings develop when the shaved hair curved back and enters the skin, which causes irritation. This turns of events will make the body react accordingly and this is what causes the inflammations. Below are some of the home remedies you can use to treat and prevent barber's itch.

One of the natural solutions for treating bumps is using papaya to cleanse the skin. Papaya is a good body scrub that helps to fight inflammation as well as removing dead skin cells. Doing this will prevent ingrown hairs. Make it even gentler by mixing papaya with yogurt or oatmeal.

Another effective remedy is applying a hot compress. This can be achieved by holding tightly a clean warm towel on the affected parts of the epidermis, especially immediately after the shave. A hot compress helps to open up the skin pores thus causing trapped hair to come out. This will ease the challenges of preventing ingrown hairs.

If you love moisturizing your skin, use virgin coconut oil. This oil will not only moisturize your skin, but it will also help to prevent it from swelling. Virgin coconut oil has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial elements that can treat a number of skin conditions. The oil also has several other benefits such as soothing and softening the skin. Softer and clear skin is easier to shave.

Tumeric and neem are also effective in treating and controlling barber's itch. Since these two natural remedies have antibacterial properties, they are good for skin treatment. For turmeric, you can either add the powder to your meals especially fluids such as water and milk or use a turmeric-based cream. To prepare neem solution, you need to add neem leaves to boiling water. You will then use the water with treatment to apply to your skin using cotton wool.

People with oily or acne prone skin are more likely to develop barber's itch. To reduce this irritation by using Aloe Vera cream when shaving. Aloe Vera has some antibacterial properties and it also generates a soothing and cooling effect on your skin. Apply the cream immediately after shaving. Generally, this substance has several healing effects, so you can use the plain gel to treat the redness or swelling.

In addition to the above home solutions, you can also try garlic since it has several anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties. The organosulfur elements in garlic work to fight bacterial growth. On top of this, it also has anti-inflammatory properties and therefore can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions. With this in mind, adding some grated garlic into your food or consuming some raw garlic may be a good idea if you want to treat barber's itch.

While the above tips are very helpful in treating razor bumps, you will achieve more if you also improve in the way you shave your facial hair. Avoid shaving hair against the grain and make it a habit to soften the parts of your skin you intend to shave using a warm towel.
