A Guide On Preventing Food Allergies

By Frances Rogers

Many people suffer from tragic food allergies, and some don't even have an idea that it exists in them. The allergy is a result of the reaction of the body on introducing the kind of foods which cannot or are difficult to get digested by the system. As soon as it get digested and penetrates into the bloodstream, few food nutrients or other foodstuff components are eliminated by the body. The antibodies and many other elements tend to fight back. From then, the symptom of allergy becomes apparent. The good news is that there are indeed a variety of solutions to preventing food allergies.

There are different symptoms for this condition. The major symptoms are swollen hands, swollen and itchy eyes, the closing of throat and larynx, burning sensation of lungs as a result due to thinning of the body's tissue lining. In babies, the symptoms could include Eczema, skin rashes, and itchy skin. The kid can also manifest misbehavior, poor concentration or other signs of "acting out".

So how can you figure out if your child's symptoms are the result of something he or she is eating? The best method we have right now is to eliminate the suspected food (or drink) from your kid's diet for four weeks. If you notice a significant improvement in symptoms, you're ready for the challenge phase: Serve the foodstuff in question for several days straight.

If the symptoms start recurring, you can be relatively sure that a cause-and-effect relationship has been established. Even after avoiding the foodstuff, it can still take a few weeks for symptoms to completely disappear. So, be patient. By far, milk and other dairy products are the most common cause of this type of reaction.

Be positive and realize that many children come over food reactions by the time they are about five years old. As recommended by several experts, introducing solid food in small quantities by the age of six months, along with breast milk, can help a great deal in preventing the condition.

However, the most interestingly and effective preventive measure is having recipes completely free from main allergens. It is simple to learn baking and cooking healthy foods by retaining texture, richness and flavor. These foods need not be tasteless or boring just because you have an allergy. Mouthwatering and nourishing recipes are good, like ultra-fudge brownies, divine macaroons, banana bread, chocolate cake and pound cake.

Food Allergy Cross-Reactivity; there is also a type of allergy that's directly connected to your sensitivity to tree and weed pollens. Called "oral allergy syndrome, " this condition shows up when there's cross-reactivity between tree or weed pollens and corresponding foods that share a common allergen. For example, because ragweed pollen and foods in the gourd family share a common allergen, people allergic to ragweed may exhibit symptoms after ingesting foods such as melons (honeydew, cantaloupe, and watermelon), cucumber, zucchini, and bananas.

So, if you are a victim of such a reaction, you must consider the aforementioned preventive mechanism. Medications, practice and knowledge are in your hands. One can easily deal with this allergy with a positive and a bold attitude.
