Basis Of Black Mental Health

By Jerry Nelson

People at times tend to be scared of people suffering from mental illnesses. While this may not be unusual some people feel uncomfortable to be around these people. The hard economic times has resulted to money worries and stress causing people to have anxiety or depression. Black mental health is worse for those blacks living in white countries.

In first world countries these people are faced with bad experiences like poor housing, unemployment and racism. Every day has a different impact in the lives of these people. All these stress can make them ill mentally. With these illnesses most of these colored people fear to get help from the hospitals. They are scared of losing their contract jobs or losing their friends.

Moving from one country to a different one contributes a lot into the mental state of a person. This explains why most black people who have moved into the white countries fall into depression. Their kids are put in a worse situation when they have to learn how to cope with issues of racism and bullying. Most of these people barely seek help until it is too late.

It is important for one to speak up when going through a trying time. This could help save a life from spending their time in a mental facility. In most of these first world countries life moves fast and people are busy. If a family has moved from and African country where they were used to sharing problems with a friend falling into depression would be fast.

There are many organizations willing to help people with mental issues. Most blacks in white countries fall into depression and never seek help. They are scared of feeling weak and accepting that something is wrong. Others fear the organizations could judge them in relation to religious beliefs or ethnicity background. It is important to speak when there is a problem instead of suffering in silence.

Despite the steps taken to fight against racism it still continues to be a major impact in the status of black people. A lot of them have no access to good hospitals and are deprived right to good education. They are sometimes homeless and to put up with the harsh street life most of them turn to drugs. Substance use puts these people at a higher risk of getting these illnesses.

More black adults who are poor are likely to get mental illnesses compared to the whit adults who are poor. They feel as if they are not worth with some committing suicide which is proof they were stressed. With the harshness of discrimination they face most of them are likely to be diagnosed with schizophrenia as compared to their white counterparts.

To run away from their problems a lot of black people result into excessive alcohol consumption. Drinking themselves to sleep fall them right into the depression ditch. One should eat healthy and exercise a lot to be able to solve these issues. Talking to someone too is very healthy. To those who know someone with any mental illness they should constantly check on how they are doing.
