Classes Are Held In Many Locations For Reiki Art Certification

By Beverly C. Ralph

When beginning to learn, the student might take several introductory classes to find out more about the practice. He or she might not be interested in this Japanese technique. It is taught and practiced in each class. Many students go on to earn reiki art certification.

Its advocates consider this to be an alternative medicine. A Japanese Buddhist, named Mikao Usui founded this practice. What practitioners are taught is that they are sending universal energy to the recipient through the palms of their hands.

The purpose of transferring this energy is to promote healing in the body of the recipient. The practitioners call it a universal life force based on qi. There is no concrete evidence that this is a medical treatment producing any results. It is referred to as a pseudoscience, not a science.

One must take a certain number of classes as prerequisites. After that he or she can enroll in the class that, if passed successfully, will certify him or her. There are also sacred symbols to be memorized and specific ways to use them.

The candidate must first complete the classes, Reiki I and II. Then they must practice for at least six months. Finally, he or she must draw the three sacred symbols from memory.

All classes are taught by ICRT Licensed Reiki Master Teachers (LRMTs). Certificates are awarded by this instructional organization. It is not confirmed to be effective by any concrete evidence.

Some research has been done. It reveals no concrete evidence of any health benefits to be gained. Those who do feel improvement has taken place are most likely feeling better because it has a placebo effect. They feel improved simply because they believe they will be improved.

There are many more disbelievers than believers. The practice is criticized as taking advantage of vulnerable people. No harm is caused by the actual practice. However, when people do not get the medical care they need, the absence of that care can be very detrimental to their health.

The Catholic church has announced disapproval of this practice. They consider it inappropriate since it is incompatible with Christian doctrine and shows no health benefits. It is not used in any Catholic health care centers or used by Catholic chaplains or anyone associated with the Church.

The reiki sacred symbols are used when a certified master administers attunement. He or she cannot effectively do so unless he has reached the high level of attunement himself. He will trace the symbols in the air with one finger and say the name aloud three times during the ceremony. Alternatively, he will draw them on a sheet of paper.
