Home Remedies For Your Dental Stains

By Harry Izzo

Do you cover your mouth to hide your smile even after hearing a hilarious joke? Then you might want to find a remedy for your stained teeth. If you go to a dentist he can have them removed in a few short minutes. A dentist is fully equipped with the latest cleansing gels to take care of your problems. If you go the home remedy route then be prepared for the long-haul.

For people that smoke, staining is a problem. Most smokers don't clean their teeth after, like they should. Just as with eating a smoker should brush his teeth after having a cigarette. A good brushing twice a day can help remove smoking stains over time. At a minimum a smoker should rinse his mouth with some water if brushing is not convenient.

Eating fruit, especially citrus fruit, is a good idea for smokers. Citrus stimulates the production of saliva in your mouth and reduces the amount of staining that occurs. You can keep your teeth white by eating oranges and lemons. Be sure that you always have a supply of these around. Citrus fruit also is packed with vitamin C and this helps combat the onset of gingivitis.

Apples and strawberries are also important fruits. Simply biting into an apple helps keep your teeth white. When eating strawberries you can munch them into a paste and rub them into the enamel of your teeth. Be sure to use a toothbrush and paste afterwards.

Other homemade pastes are made from hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Baking soda is a good alternative to toothpaste. The tiny grains in baking soda are abrasive and can rid your mouth of smoke stains. Just don't do it too vigorously, because you do not want to damage your tooth enamel.

Dairy products are loaded with nutrients. They are a good source of calcium which helps strengthen bones. Teeth are bones and are strengthened internally by what we eat. Milk and other products such as cheese help rid your mouth of smoke stains.

These home remedies are not quick fixes unfortunately. They help remove stains over time especially for smokers. The best option is to quit smoking altogether. This will improve your smile and keep you living longer too.
